This Week in the PBL (May 19 - 24)
The 2026 Pioneer Baseball League season is underway, and here’s how all 12 teams stacked up during opening week action from May 19–24.
Billings Mustangs (4-2)
Billings swept Idaho Falls before splitting four games against Glacier.
The Mustangs rallied from an 8-4 deficit the following night to win 17-10. Billings' largest win of the week was a 22-7 victory over Glacier on May 23. Adam Cootway drove in seven runs, and the Mustangs finished with 25 hits.
Billings will host Idaho Falls for a six-game series at Dehler Park.
Boise Hawks (4-2)
Boise opened the season against Ogden and finished the week 4-2. The Hawks won the opener 9-4 after scoring five runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Raptors 7-4 on May 21 behind a three-run home run and four RBI from Brandon Nigh.
The final two games of the series both ended tied in regulation, leading to a knockout round both nights. Boise won both the knockout rounds.
Boise will host the Modesto Roadsters in a six-game series next.
Glacier Range Riders (5-1)
Glacier opened the season with a three-game sweep of Great Falls before taking two of three games from Billings.
The Range Riders outscored Great Falls 35-12 in the opening series. Against Billings, Glacier won 17-9 on May 22 behind a 10-run sixth inning and six RBI from Jacob Steele, then secured the series with a 5-2 victory on May 24.
Glacier returns home this week for a six-game series against the Great Falls Voyagers.
Great Falls Voyagers (2-4)
Great Falls was swept by Glacier before winning two of three against Idaho Falls.
The Voyagers scored 12 runs in three games against Glacier, then scored 33 runs in the Idaho Falls series. Great Falls won the first two games before Idaho Falls avoided the sweep with a 16-9 win on May 24.
Great Falls travels to Kalispell for a six-game rematch against the Glacier Range Riders.
Idaho Falls Chukars (1-5)
Idaho Falls opened the season with three losses to Billings and two losses at Great Falls before winning the series finale against the Voyagers.
The Chukars scored 23 runs during the Billings series but were unable to secure a win. Their first victory came May 24 when they collected 19 hits in a 16-9 win over Great Falls. Sam Canton and Cole Robinson homered in the victory.
Idaho Falls heads to Billings for a six-game series against the Mustangs.
Long Beach Coast (3-3)
Long Beach won two of three games at Yuba-Sutter before dropping two of three at Oakland.
The Coast opened franchise history with a 10-6 win on May 19 behind two home runs from Emilio Corona. Long Beach recorded its first shutout on May 21 in a 10-0 victory over Yuba-Sutter. Against Oakland, the Coast lost 12-1, won 15-12, and lost 11-5.
Jacob Jablonski hit two home runs and drove in five runs in the May 23 victory over the Ballers.
Long Beach continues its season-opening schedule with three more games against Oakland before returning home to host Yuba-Sutter for a three-game series.
Missoula PaddleHeads (3-2)
The PaddleHeads got off to a strong start in Oakland, taking two of three games against the defending league champion Ballers at Raimondi Park. On Opening Night, Missoula rolled to an 11-2 victory behind catcher Nich Klemp, who homered twice and drove in five runs. William Bermudez and Xavier Casserilla also went deep in that game, helping the PaddleHeads hang 16 hits on Oakland's staff.
Enzo Apodaca stood out on May 20, homering twice and finishing with four RBI, though Missoula dropped that game 13-8. The PaddleHeads closed out the Oakland series with a 12-4 win on May 21. Missoula then took on the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds over the weekend, winning the first game 11-8 before dropping the next two.
The PaddleHeads head to Ogden this week for a six-game set.
Modesto Roadsters (6-0)
The Roadsters started the week off on a strong note, sweeping the RedPocket Mobiles across six games to open their inaugural Pioneer Baseball League season. Modesto outscored RedPocket 65-25 on the week, with their most dominant performances coming on May 19 and May 22, handing the Mobiles 12-1 losses on both days. The Roadsters also took a 14-4 victory on May 20 and held off a late RedPocket rally to win 12-11 on May 21.
Osiris Johnson was a standout, finishing second in the league with 12 RBI, while Bryce Cannon added 11 of his own.
The Roadsters will travel to Boise to take on the Hawks for six games.
Oakland Ballers (3-3)
The Ballers had a mixed Opening Week, dropping two of three to Missoula at home before closing out the series with a 13-8 win on May 20.
T.J. McKenzie was the offensive highlight of the week, going 3-for-3 with three home runs and six RBI in that victory. McKenzie and Jeter Ybarra both finished the week tied for the league lead with four home runs each. Oakland also took a 12-11 win over Long Beach on May 22, finishing the week at .500.
The Ballers stay home this week at Raimondi Park with the Long Beach Coast finishing their six-game series, then host the RedPocket Mobiles for three games to finish the week.
Ogden Raptors (2-3)
The Raptors had a high-scoring Opening Week against Boise, though they dropped four of the six games to fall below .500.
Giuseppe Ferraro-Nahr and Cole Jordan both tied for the league lead with four home runs each, giving Ogden a powerful duo at the heart of the lineup. Ogden's biggest win of the week came on May 20, a 15-6 blowout over the Hawks. The Raptors also nearly pulled off one of the week's most dramatic comebacks on May 24, scoring 13 runs over the final four innings to nearly erase a 14-2 Boise lead before the game ended in a 15-15 tie.
Ogden dropped both weekend games in Knockout Rounds, handing Boise the series. The Raptors welcome Missoula to Ogden this week for a six-game set.
RedPocket Mobiles (0-6)
The Mobiles had a difficult opening week, dropping all six games to Modesto. RedPocket was held to four runs or fewer in four of their six games and struggled to generate consistent offense throughout the series.
Third baseman Maury Weaver was a bright spot, posting seven hits across 18 at-bats and driving in four runs. The team did show some life, putting up 11 runs in their closest contest on May 21.
The Mobiles head to Yuba-Sutter this week for three games against the Freebirds, then take on Oakland for a three-game series over the weekend.
Yuba-Sutter Freebirds (2-3)
The Freebirds had a split opening week, losing the first series against Long Beach Coast before winning two of three against Missoula. After dropping the opener to Long Beach 10-6, Yuba-Sutter won the second game by three runs before being shut out 10-0 on May 21.
The Freebirds hosted Missoula for a three-game series, where they picked up a 9-8 win on May 23. Josh Duarte was the most consistent performer of the week, recording multiple hits and RBIs in the series opener against Long Beach. The team finished the week with five home runs and a team average just above .300.
The Freebirds return home this week to host the RedPocket Mobiles for three games, then take Long Beach Coast over the weekend.
