Pioneer League Hosts 2026 Arizona Tryout Camp & Spring Draft
28 Players Headed to Spring Training After Being Signed to PBL Club Contracts
The Pioneer Baseball League (PBL), a Major League Baseball Partner League, held its 2026 Arizona Tryout Camp from April 15–17 at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, attracting over 150 players leading to the signing of 28 players in the PBL Draft.
Players participated in pro-style workouts, including scrimmages, drills, and evaluations, while utilizing TrackMan technology to capture advanced analytics to support player assessment.
The camp also featured strong representation from across the league, including former MLB players and managers such as JT Snow, who made his first selection as a manager, and Aaron Miles, whose Oakland Ballers attempt to repeat as champions.
Following the conclusion of the tryout, each of the 12 Pioneer League clubs conducted a draft from the player pool, with each club required to sign at least one player to a PBL contract for their upcoming spring training.
First overall selection Joey Mazzetti, a right-handed pitcher drafted by the Modesto Roadsters, delivered a dominant performance at camp. Mazzetti faced 11 batters, striking out eight of them, allowing just one hit and no runs.
"The environment at the PBL tryout was amazing. I got to see past teammates and guys I grew up playing against," Mazzetti said: "I'm thankful and grateful for the opportunity to take a step toward fulfilling my dream of playing professional baseball."

"2026's Spring PBL tryout camp was a great success, as we saw a record number of attendees and nearly one-fifth of the players chosen in our draft with an opportunity to win a job in Spring Training next month," said PBL Tryout Camp Coordinator, Alex Dailey. "I personally witnessed the grit, talent, and high baseball IQ this draft class possesses, and I'm excited to see these players translate their previous experiences and unique perspectives into a successful 2026 PBL season."
The Pioneer League will host its Midseason Tryout Camp at Bryant Field in Marysville, CA, July 17-18, again with each of the 12 PBL clubs required to sign at least one player to its roster.
