CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP: GAME 1
Range Riders defeat the High Wheelers 2-0
The 2024 Pioneer League Championship series kicked off last night at Glacier Bank Park in the Flathead Valley of Montana last night. The Glacier Range Riders took game one of the five-game series in front of their home crowd with a 2-0 win.
Pitching dominated this game from the start. Kaleb Sophy got the start for the Range Riders and allowed no runs on five hits and six strikeouts through the four innings he pitched. High Wheelers starting pitcher Cameron Repetti had a good performance as well, going six innings and allowing two runs on five hits.
However, the game changing moment occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Repetti still pitching and Range Riders second baseman Gabe Howell at the plate when he launched a two-run home run to left-centerfield, scoring Ryan McCarthy and putting the first runs on the board in the game.
With the score now at 2-0 through six innings, Yolo manager Billy Horton brought on two relievers to finish out the final two innings, Ethan Bates and Kris Anglin, who only allowed a single hit between the two of them.
Range Riders manager Paul Fletcher would bring in four different relievers following Sophy's four innings of work who would go on to not allow a single hit in the five innings they pitched, closing out the game and taking game one of the Championship series.
The High Wheelers and Range Riders will play game two tonight at Glacier Bank Park at 7:05pm MDT. They will then hit the road to travel back to Yolo where they will play the remaining games of the series starting on Friday. All the games can be watched at https://share.flosports.tv/SHbH
